View Full Version : Fraud Victim!
Hey ladies! This is VERY unrelated but I'm looking for some answers. A website I order beads from (AuntiesBeads.com) recently had a security breach and all the credit card information for all of their customers was stolen. Today I got a phone call from my credit card comapny's fraud department about some charges that were not mine.
The card has been cancelled and a new account with a new card is being opened. But as you can imagine, I haven't dealt with fraud before and I'm scared senseless! What do I need to do next? My husband and I use debit cards for almost every transaction, which of course are linked directly to our bank account. I only use credit cards when ordering online to protect myself against problems like this and it was the credit card number that was used. Is it silly for me to worry that this will turn into more serious identity theift? Or is this just some punk kid on Napster (seriously, one of the fraudulent charges was Napster and Sony Online Entertainment) using whatever stolen credit card information he can get his hands on?

First off, I'm sorry to hear about what happened. Stuff like this sucks...
I think you should monitor your credit reports closely for awhile, just to make sure there is no carry-over from this incident. You probably don't need to put a freeze on your credit reports but it's an option. It makes it harder for you (or anyone trying to impersonate you) to open any new accounts. I think that since you used a credit card and the company has already issued you a new number, you should be fine. But of course, be aware of what's going on in your credit files just in case.

Sorry to hear about this Tay!! I wouldn't freak out. Just pay extra attention to your accounts and make sure nothing weird is going on for the next little while. You should be fine now that the card has been cancelled.
I had someone in brooklyn NY charge GAS to my card once. I don't even know HOW that was possible but I reported it the charge was removed and that was the end of it. They may have issued me a new card, I don't remember.

Oh, I'm so sorry Tay. Hopefully this is just a one time thing and it is taken care of now.
Both my debit card and my DH's card were comprimised this week....we couldn't believe it happened to both of us in the same week...unbelievable. $1000 gone from our account. Thank god the bank is reimbursing us, but this is the SECOND time it has happened to me this year.....so frustrating!
Just keep a close eye on your accounts!!!

Yikes! That is so scary!
I've only used my credit card online a couple times and luckily had success.
If your only financial link to that site was your credit card it should be okay since it's cancelled. But I'd take the others' advice and keep an eye on things too.
I seriously think that if anyone got a hold of any of my accounts, they'd feel so sorry for me and put some money IN!

About 2 years ago I used my card at Marshall's. Well someone got into Marshall's & TjMaxx system and got everyone's info. They canceled my card and issued me a new one. As soon as they found out they fixed the problem. Nobody tried to use my info or anything. I'd still keep an eye on it though or atleast get an updated statement on your stuff more often than normal.

If you get a new credit card, get one where you can request a virtual number for internet purchases-

Do they get the information of your creditcard if you use Paypal?
I thought the shop don't get the information if you pay with Paypal.
