what do you use? how do you like it? what was your price range?

i would like to stay under $1000 and im hoping with all the christmas sales ill be able to that!

I love my point and shoot camera. I have a Sony Cybershot 8.1MP -- I've love a camera with a higher MP -- but that will have to wait a little while.

I have a Kodak Easyshare that I got for my birthday a few years ago but I really want a Nikon or a Canon Rebel

I have a Nikon D40 and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!! I got it before the D60's came out, and if I were to buy one now I would probably get the D60, only because it has a few more manual features I would like, but I am seriously in love with my D40! :)

I have a Kodak Easyshare 12MP. We got it last christmas. H wanted me to finally get the Canon Rebel during one of the great sales last christmas, but I freaked out over spending the money... Now, I hate my kodak... (I had one before this one too). Its slow to take the pic, if I put it on rapid shot, all the shots are blurred badly.. It doesn't have a view finder, just the LCD screen and I didn't realize how much that would bother me... it drains batteries like nothing else... And lately the pictures look way grainy to me. I TOTALLY regret not going ahead with the bigger purchase!! I've already told h that if possible, I want to upgrade soon. I think I'm gonna start me a camera fund! Not sure which camera I want either... the Rebel is nice, but I would like to check out a few different ones... so, I'm gonna watch this thread closely too!

I have a Sony A200 (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0801/08010701sonydslra200.asp) DSLR. It's about $500 and has 10.2 MP. So far I love it!

I also use a Sony DSC point and shoot with 5.1 MP. We've been a Sony family since we bought our first digital camera in 2000.

valeri -my mom had a kodak easyshare before she lost it (thank god!) i hated taking pictures with it for that very same reason, it is just SO DANG SLOW. very hard to get a good shot with it.

i've been looking on bestbuy.com and the nikons seem really good. i was just reading reviews on the D60... sounds like a really solid camera. im too scared to get anything other than a canon or nikon i think! lol2

Point and shoot here. I've got a Canon PowerShot A590. The one I don't recommend is Fuji FinePix S700. I bought one before my Canon because it had amazing optical zoom (10x). The pictures were awful. Even on action setting they were blurry (with and without zoom) and black spots had grey patches. I had a friend who bought a similar Fuji recently and returned it for the same reasons. Everyone in my family has a Canon now and we all love them :)

As soon as my kids come home I'm taking them out for a photo shoot. I love the portrait setting :happydance:

Yep it is extrememly SLOW... and I swear it gets slower and slower every time I use it. I can take a hundred pictures and only a third of them are usuable. Its frustrating. For just pictures to have, its ok... but for scrapbooking, I can soooo Totally see the difference in the pictures from my camera and those from other cameras. Mine just don't stand up. I'm always trying to tweak them to make them look better.

I'm interested in the Nikons too. The one I would absolutely LOVE to have (though for the life of me can't remember its make or model) is over $3000... I play with it ever time I go to best buy! LOL

I have a canon 40D. I just upgraded from my Canon Rebel xt. I love my dslr because it's fast and I get great results! I think it's a good idea to go to the store and hold it in your hands and see if either is more comfortable to you.

I agree with Joscie, make sure you go in to an actual store. Buying online can usually get you a better deal, but be sure to hold it first!!! I don't think you can go wrong with a Nikon or a Canon. :)

It's a great camera! Especially if you are new to SLR's

Are you going to sell your Rebel? Just wondering...

I, too, have the Kodak Easyshare. My old digi was Polaroid (aka cheap) and the flash was FAR to bright and couldn't be adjusted. In comparison, I love the Kodak Easyshare! It's been a good little camera so far. My husband's family is all into Canon Rebels and I can tell the difference, but we're still in college so I'm ok not having one yet. When we have kids I'll definitely need a faster camera though!

for sure! yah, you'll definitely want to upgrade once you start having bebes! :) that's really the only reason why i dont like the kodak easyshare. jacob would be doing the cutest darn thing over at my mom's and i would grab her camera to take some pictures and sure enough, every shot was like, an "after thought" of what i was really trying to get a picture of. lol

I have a Canon A570IS... basically a P&S but it also has Manual, Tv, Av modes too! I looooove it! It is a wonderful bridge camera for me and I think my photos have improved 210%!! It still has some shutter lag so that is frustrating... but DH has promised that when I am out of real school, I can get a DSLR and take a photography class at the community college! ::yipee:: I've been lusting after the Canons at Costco. lol

I'm so excited to see this thread because I also have a better camera on my x-mas list....just not sure which one yet! I have been looking at the Nikon's online & really really want one then I'm sure I will need a photography class to figure out how to use it! So spoiled by my point & shoot Cannon Elph b/c it is just so easy to use. Can't really find too many things to complain about it either!

I just got a Nikon D40 just a couple of months ago and I love, love, love it. However, the battery is driving me nuts. I put it on the charger and left it to long and fried it. :gah: I have been using my back up battery, but had that plugged into the computer to long on Wed. and fried it :gah::rant:. It's way to easy to fry!!

I have two lenses. The standard and the 55-200. Still I love this camera compared to my old Cannon powershot.

Not sure what I'll do with it yet. I"m not even sure when I'm going to upgrade. I might sell it, but I might keep it. Who knows. I'd let you all know if I had a camera for sale ;)

In case I didn't say it before....

I HATE MY CAMERA!!!!!!!

OMG, went to the air show today, and I swear I wanted to throw the thing over the fence about ummm 100 times or so!!! I swear it is the slowest shutter camera in the world!!!! The one I upgraded from was even better than this one!!! I sat there all day in camera envy as people walked around with their wonder DSLRs... H lauged at me! HAHA, I lauged at me!! ROFLMAO! This one guy had this super cool Telescopic lens, and I swear I might have drooled a bit!! :o

Seriously, you should see all my pictures... I've got a ton of lovely sky pictures, beautiful clouds, some fuzzy clouds, some smoke trails.... and VERY FEW actual flying plane pics. And half the ones I do have, are fuzzy beyond recognition! Like, is that a plane? O flying monkey? OR maybe just a really big out of focus bird? HAHA

Yep thats where we went! We got to sit in the Fedex Chalet this time, and it was positively wonderful!!! We had free drinks all day, lunch, Chairs (LOL), and lots of little goodies. H's Fedex rep from work gave him the tickets...

Well, everything was wonderful EXCEPT the camera!! It didn't seem to get the memo! LOL

The show was awsome, though we missed the truck that races the jet... But the Thunderbirds were amazing!!! And they had more static display this time too, Tons of military planes, helicopters and so on. And the bestbuy trailer was super cool, have a great pic of Daddy holding up baby girl so she can play the boxing game that used a camera through a computer... Super adorable!!

Did I mention I love it??? :D

We had been droolling over the Canon Rebel DSLR's when they first came out. Dh has a 35mm Rebel and we had been told that we could switch out the lenses and flash we had. We just couldn't justify the expense. We finally decided this summer to bite the bullet and get a DSLR, so we did some research and the Sony was comperable to the Canon in specs, and I could buy it locally for cheap. So we did it. I love it. :) Love, love, love it.... ::yipee::

I have a Canon EOS 20D DSRL with some expensive lenses (24-105L USM, 70-300 USM) and a Canon A630 point and shoot.
It's my birthday next saturday and I was hoping to get the EOS 50D, but I get a new car instead of that!
I'm still very happy with the 20D, but just like Miss Mint I want something new.

I have a Sony Cybershot DSCH2. It's my second digicam, as my first one was a simple 3 MP Fuju Finepix, which did the job fine and seemed to help me overcome my family curse with photos/cameras (LONG STORY).

After a few years I decided to upgrade to my now-camera and decided on it based on the fact that a friend of mine has one and took wonderful photos with it (I have since learned, part of that is her skill ^_^).

I like it because it has the steady shot feature (which helps when having the flash turned off) and you can shoot in manual. I usually shot in the Program mode, set with some things I have manually put on it, but I have lots yet to still learn about lighting, aperture, etc. Once I get really comfortable and feel I'm getting consistently good shots, I'll probably upgrade to a DSLR.

However, for now, overally I really love my Cybershot! (Love the 12x zoom!)

We have a Canon Powershot S60 to keep in my purse for shots when we don't want to lug the big ones out and a Canon 20D(mine) and 40D(dh's). 4 Lenses ...50mm, 2 23-70mm and a 70-200mm. For most of my shots I use the 50mm and just move to and from my subject.
Sigma makes good lenses that are cheaper than canons.

sounds like me... I always have the 50 on my camera... It's funny trying to explain the human zoom when someone else offers to take a shot for me. "uh, there's no zoom, just step back. hee hee"

DH got me a XTI for my birthday this year. I begged for it when it first came out but we couldn't justify the expense. When we got our tax refund this year he got it for me, I was stoked and totally surprised! I love it. I love the pictures it takes, the quality. I even like having to figure out how to use all the dang little buttons. I did however ask DH if he would get me a small camera for our anniversary. One that I could just throw in my purse without having to worry about destroying an $800 camera. I'm not suppossed to know, but when it says Canon Estore on our bank statement it's pretty hard to not know! lol! I asked him for the new pink bundle that they have out right now, so I'm pretty sure thats what he got me....too bad I can't play with it until next month!!! lol! I don't have any lenses other than the 18-35 that the XTI came with, but they are on my Christmas list. Thanks Trisha for the info on the sigma lenses. Off to check them out!
