I love recoloring! It's definitely one of my favorite parts of digital scrapbooking!

I have PSE6 too, and this is how I recolor:

At the right of the window there are 3 tabs: Edit, Create, and Share.
Under the Edit tab, there are 3 more tabs: Full, Quick, and Guided.

I typically have the Full tab clicked because it shows the layers and lets me have access to all of the tools (such as move, etc).

When I recolor, I click on the Quick tab, and all of the sliders are there, and I just play around.

The two bars I probably use most are hue and saturation, but I always seem to try all of them anyway.

Oh, and make sure to have the layer you want to recolor selected before going over to the Quick edit tab. It won't let you recolor more than one layer at a time (that I know how).

I know that there are ways to access all of these bars separately, and there are probably more tools that I don't even know about, but they've worked pretty well for me. I hope this helps!

there's a couple of different ways

this is how I do it in PSE
Option 1 - place a paper in the layer above and CTRL G to clip it to it and then CTRL E to merge the layers together
Option 2 - Layer>new fill layer>solid color then choose the colour you want. And follow the steps as in option 1

Yeah, to recolor paint stronkes and the painted borders I use my eye dropper to grab the color I want then create a new layer above the paint stroke/border and fill the new layer with my color using the paint bucket tool. Then CTRL+G and CTRL+E to clip and merge! Voila! Colored paint! :)

Another way to recolor an item is this. With your original element active, move (copy & paste) say a some cardstock, then go to your layer blending options and find color, this will then change the color of your element too. Then just CTRL+G and CTRL+E and voila, you've changed the color and it still matches from the kit you might be using. :) I've been doing that recently, it keeps the texture or details of the original element while changing it's color. I tend to do this mostly with alphas.

Okay, I don't have PSE6 but a friend does and I think we figured out the shortcut keystroke Ctrl-U brings up the hue/saturation control box, even though there doesn't seem to be a direct menu feature for it. That's how I do 95% of my recoloring in CS2 and from what I'm reading it's how a lot of PSE peeps do it, too. I think it's a fast but reliable way to get good color. (I've printed elements recolored this way and they look perfect, as if they were designed that color!)

Yeah, that's how I recolor most things, except paint and stamps. ;)

I have PSE6 too

I tend to use the "enhance" feature, "Change color", then "color Variations".. brings up a box where you go from midtones, highlights, shadows, satuations and also the degree in which you want to change it.. and has a preview to the side where you see how each thing you do changes the object... and its not permant, if I don't like it I just hit cancel! And then there is always the undo button too! LOL

I change papers the most, and they do pretty good at retaining thier textures.. but sometimes elements dont do so well. I find clipping the element with a paper I really like tends to work great for me.

I didn't know the other ways you all have described and am looking forward to trying them out!!

Ditto Tay !
I also have CS2 and this is the way i recolor my papers or elements but for stamps and paints, i always use the color Overlay function to recolor. It looks great too !

I use alot of those meathods too. But lately I've been playing with this one (particularily for stamps and simple recoloring):

Choose the layer for the item you want to recolor. Click on the "Lock Transparency Button". In PSE it looks like a checker board and it's above the list of layers in your layers pallet. Then choosing a brush and the color you want from the color boxes, run the brush over the item. Voila.
