In honor of the season...What scares you creatively? What techniques or designs or styles are you afraid to try? Have you ever tried something that you thought wouldn't work and it worked? What is your comfort zone and what is outside your comfort zone?

Take your time and think about this if you want but I WANT TO HEAR BACK! If you can read this, you can respond :). As usual...if you have a layout that pertains to what we are discussing...jump on and share a link.

Okay I know it's my question...but I have a stinky baby on my lap and I will have to get back to you on this.

In the meantime...talk among yourselves :)!

Oh, this is easy--extractions scare me--but at the same time, I've never really WANTED to try.

All the magical type kits out there scare me--with all the perfect clustering and layering. That I would love to try, and have tried, but I can't make it work for me.

Not that extractions necessarily scare me, but I just DO NOT have the patience to do it! I wish I did because they can look really awesome!

Also, simple pages.... I loooove how they look when done "right" but I can't seem to leave mine simple... I just have to keep layering and piling on the embellies! lol2

haha! My hubby was just asking me last night "Remember how one of the things you said you wanted to be able to do when you had photoshop was to use brushes? Have you used those?"

and I just haven't because I don't even know where to start, so I've just been playing around NOT using all of the features I wanted PSE for! :shake:

Yes I think brushes scare me too. I never quite know what to do with them :). And white space layouts scary me, lol. I will start out doing them and then I just can not commit to them! I think Photoshop scares me too. I'm kinda comfortable (but I know there are things I want to do in Photoshop) but then I would have to spend time learning new things.

Oh and getting off the automatic settings on my camera scares me. Am I really ready to take that step in that relationship.

I don't think there is too much that scares me when it comes to scrapping. That's why we have Ctrl Z!! :happydance:I just get frustrated when I can't do something right away...I am not very patient when it comes to learning new things!! LOL

Ha ha Kirsty. So true about cntl+z.
I'm not SURE what scares me....I have a hard time using too many elements.
I love the look but can't seem to master it.

White space LOs scare me. When I see other's white space los, I think "wow!". They are always so breathtakingly simple. Elegant. But when I do one, I immediatly think "oh nevermind!"

Also the brushes for me too. I have no idea how do use most of them.

Extractions and blending a photo into a background. I have tried it many times and I cannot get it to look right!

I have a hard time with simple pages as well. There are so many gorgeous ones out there some people just have the knack from them. If I do simple, it just looks boring LOL.
AAM pages scare me too! lol2

Well, extractions scare me, they're time-consuming and i don't have the patience to play with my magnetic lasso !

Color scheme sometimes scares me because i want to find the one that will perfectly match my pictures and sometimes (more and more often actually...) it takes me forever to find what papers/kits i will use on my LO.

And sometimes i only scare of being uninspired... I can't simply do nothing good with my papers/embellies/pictures ! I hate being blocked ! !!!

And what scares me above all is that i absolutely need to have 3 or 4 days to "recover" my inspiration/creativity when i'm done with a LO !!!!

I am obviously afraid of using my Alphas. I buy them up like crazy but hardly ever use them. I hate putting the time into making words. Lame huh!?! The other day I did spell out anatomy and physiology on a LO with an alpha and it was soo easy. So I dont know what my problem is.

Also for extractions ya'll dont be scared. In PSE if u look at your eraser in the top left corner of your workspace you will see 3 eraser types. I pick the third to the right and then u can click on areas u want to extract. It will erase huge chunks. Now if it is erasing to much or too little adjust the tolerance up or down. I hoped I explained that well. OK thats enough gots keep some stuff locked up for DNTS 3. Just kidding I dont mind sharing with u girlies. But I am gonna work on my skills for the competition. Can u imagine free minty for a year!!!! Well some of use dont have to imagine and phooey on you.

I'm one who can't do extractions, BUT if I were going to, I'd use a layer mask instead of an eraser because I would be bound to mess up too many times! lol

The eraser makes things so easy for me. It takes almost no effort and I can usually extract what I want in just a few minutes perfectly.

On the words to the left of the picture in this LO I use the method I just described to extract the words from the tab like things offered in tropical popsicle. I just pushed the button and the entire BG disappeared.

Drop shadows are one of my fears, I always try and mess around with them but I can never get them looking quite right :(

I also LOVE the look of lots of layers and elements but always feel when I try to do it ...things look super cluttered and disorganized!

I totally agree! I love when other people do it, but when I do it it has the effect of "sticker sneeze". I know the more I practice, the better I think it'll look. But even my favorite paper LO's were all very simple.

-- manual mode on my 20D
-- extractions
-- montages
-- fantastical heavily manipulated images & pages
-- drop shadows that take more than 10 minutes a layer

*lol* I am a scrapping weenie, I guess.
