We have a fun family tradition. The first of October we make a fun Halloween desert (monster apples, haunted house cake, cemetary pudding...), get out the Halloween Decorations, and watch a Scary movie. As the kids get older (and we have more going on) we have modified this occasionally (changing the date, or picking one thing to do), but we always try to celebrate the spooky season.

Keep your eyes open for some fun Halloween Hybrids too. There might be some fun family ideas coming.

The scary movies reminds me has anyone here seen The Brave Little Toaster.

DH ordered it from Netflix and the kids about freaked and asked to send it back right away.

Here is a bit of it.

After watching that I watched this scene from Pinnochio and I think we will stick with Mickey Mouse's Halloween from now on!

Gideon has a small book about this movie and really wants to watch it. I am glad I ran into this refresher.

Our family does the Pumpkin Patch too, but our favorite fall activity is apple picking. Is that an option where you live? We have done it since I was a kid, and the boys look forward to it every year. And, fresh, homemade apple crisp can't be beat. Yumm! :)

I bet I can find some apples around here we will be going to a small picking farm I found very close to my house but I dont know what they have right now. I am sure it is not apples because I have seen the fields.

I love the apple picking too. We do strawberries in the summer too.

I hated the Brave Little Toaster - Way scarrry!! That clown scene is stuff of 5 year old nightmares.

We love the Winnie the Pooh one. Even my older ones like it.

GRRR! I cannot believe DH. My poor kids still mention it weeks later. We will be in the car and they will say something like. No like toaster. Send it back. And I have to say we did baby and that Toaster movie is gone and will never come back. I had never even heard of the movie.

It should be rated R, lol. It sucks way to many families in.

Ugh... I live in the desert where there is no fall. :gah: It is really very sad. No pretty changing colors or big piles of leaves... hardly even a change in the weather. I hate it. We're lucky if it's 70 degrees by December. :wait:

AWW! That sounds fun. I hope u girls do go somewhere fun. I am also a desert girl. Originaly from El Paso, Texas. I have considered moving to Arizona. I love grass and trees alot but those wide blue skies are often calling me. Funny when I am in the desert I yearn for grass and trees.

Haha! My new dream is to live in a small town (talking population of 860) called Sonoita, AZ. They say it looks like Montana, with the rolling grassy hills and everything, it's right near Lake Patagonia, yet it's smack dab in the middle of the Sonoran desert! We drove through there just before school started and I fell in love...

Arizona really has a little bit of everything...except winter of course! lol

Anyway...back to October....I need to do me some baseball watchin'! I used to be so into it, but now school has taken over so I don't even know who's playing in the World Series!:bigeek:

We're going to an apple orchard tomorrow. We usually hit the pumpkin patch too. Another favorite we've done with other families is a bonfire and roast marshmallows. We've also done hayrack rides too. Some of our simple favorite activities is to go on nature walks and collect leaves we find around the neighborhood and then do leaf rubbings.

no apple orchards near me and I've never heard of pumpkin patchs here in Australia either. The fall is pretty uneventful.

Road TRIP to Minnesota!! We'll take a river boat cruise and see all the pretty leaves ::hi::.

You need to grow pumpkins in your garden Kirstie :).

Definitely going to the pumpkin patch! We took the twins last year and had a blast! They were about 15 months old and they had such fun carrying around all of the little pumpkins, putting them in the wagon. I think I ended up buying about 15, LOL! :D

This is one of my favorite photos from that day. I love the look on Drew's face like he's trying to help his sister figure out how in the world they're going to lift that BIG pumpkin!
