How often do you have family portraits taken?

I had Jacob's done at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months and now I have it done every year around his birthday. Last Christmas we had a family portrait done. I was starting to think about what we were going to for this year and then I thought well, maybe we dont "need" another one yet. We all still pretty much look the same as we did last year... LOL.

So, Im just both curious and bored. :) What does your family do? Every year? Every other year? Am I the only one who takes the time to think about stuff like this? :loco:

HMMM, I used to the do the portrait things until I would get so irritated and want to go over and take the pics myself. So thats what we do now, I set up my tripod sometime in November and we go outside and take a Family pic and then I take individual shots of my kids.

I like doing them outside because they look nicer than the plain backgrounds.

we live so close to the beach... we need to do an outdoor portrait! we just go to Picture People... bah. but i tend to like things simple, if you havent noticed from my LO's! lol so Im always pleased with the way they turn out. last year we all wore white shirts (nice shirts), and i had Picture People use a black background and turn the photo B&W. it turned out beautiful. but the beach... that would be awesome! and probably expensive since i would have to pay someone to do it! lol

I prefer outside portraits as well... and i plan on doing one every year in Novemeber so I can send out Christmas cards. I have never seen a good "cheap" photog, so I will be investing in a tripod for my camera and just try it that way this year.

I would love to have them taken a couple times a year, but it's so expensive! We always have the twins portrait taken around their birthday and Christmas (my MIL would kill me if there were no holiday pictures!). But, as a family, we've only had one or two. I'd like to have them taken at least twice a year.

I think it's great that you think about this, you'll look back on them some day and be glad you did! :D

I take my kids pics myself about every 6 months...it works out nicely since their birthdays are both in the springtime, so I do them then, and then again at Christmas. We do a family one every year in October or November. I'm lucky enough to have an AMAZING photographer for a sister, so she does them for us!!!! :) My kids are so crazy I don't think we'd get a decent picture if there wasn't someone behind the camera acting like a goof to make them focus and smile!!!!

I actually have no family portraits. Sad huh. I was gonna take the kids last year but my dad was like WHY? Dont u have that fancy expensive camera and take over a thousand pictures a month? I thought oh yeah your right and honestly my kids can hardly sit still and the few times I took them for pro shots everything was so irritating. I personally hate The Picture People. I love Kiddie Kandids at Babies R us and highly recommend them.

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one....and I mean of the entire family..it's sad cuz you walk in the house and there are NO photos/frames/etc....I keep harping about it, but still..nada, so that is why I scrap..LOL!

I haven't had much luck in the past with family portraits, I never like what I get unless it's just me and DH because the kids never co-operate. We have plenty of family snaps so that keeps me happy.

to be honest i really dont feel like having one done this year... (lazy!) but i have feeling im going to change my mind once christmas card season is upon us. this seems to be an "all or nothing" type thing. either you do it every year or you dont really do it at all! my parents were the ones who hardly ever had them done. the last family portrait we took together was when i was 13; before my youngest brother was even born. im 27 now. pretty sad! im totally the crazy woman/mom whose house is covered in framed photos. in good taste though of course! no clutter allowed! lol

I tend to take a portrait every year in November of the kids and then use them for Christmas cards. Last year we had a photo taken of all 6 of us sitting in front of the fireplace at church and it came out so well, I just used that. We have not done professional ones in years.

I also had both my boys' portraits taken at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months, but we've had none done since, almost two years ago now.

Everyone in my family takes a lot of pictures so sometimes when we have a family gathering we take pictures of our families. That was what I used for our Christmas cards a couple years ago.

And with Christmas ticking quickly closer I'm thinking we'd better do that again soon!

Do you have a remote for your camera? I have one for my DSLR.

...now I have it done every year around his birthday. Last Christmas we had a family portrait done. ..

We do professional pictures around my son's birthday and then again at Christmas. It's close to 6 months apart, so we have pictures taken twice a year.

I did 3,6,9, 12, 18 months and then yearly for both of my girls. But now I have a nice camera and I'm going to start doing them myself--hopefully I'll learn enough about how to use it to be able to get good pictures!

I took my sons at 3 months, 9 months, and one year. And then its been every year after that. My daughters I did at 4 months, and 6 months, and then she's due for her yearly one soon. We got our first family pic as a foursome done in July, though I do need to set up the camera and take one to use for Christmas cards.

The last family portrait was from 2001 (LOL). I take the kids photos every year though. I just take them to the greenspace across the street and take a whack of photos until I get one or two I like :o) I've got to get one of the three of us soon because I'm sure they'd love to have actual pictures of me someday.

I honestly never do family photos until one of the Grandparents forces the issue. My DH is a total photophobic! He hates getting his pic taken. Add five kids and it just ain't gonna happen.

So I try to get a good all kids pic occasionally during the year.
