And do you think it suits you?

We now know that I'm Pam and I'm not sure that it totally suits me. I like my name but I think if I could choose I would pick something with a little more 'tude. I'm a big fan of boy names on girls.

You?

My name is Mariska. I guess you don't hear it often in the US. Its quite common here. I think it also suits me. I would love to have a more stylish name, but hey, i'm not so stylish so....(especially not right now, straight out of bed)

My DD's name is Isis. I like that a LOT. (haha, we chose it) It suits her quite well...

My DS's name is Timo. Also a name you don't come across often I think. It means "send by God". Suits him aswell :bounce:

Well my name is Christy and I've always liked it -- i did go by Chris for awhile in junior high, but it didn't last long. If my paternal grandmother had had any sway on my mom, my name would have been Dina Marie. Thankfully my mother put her foot down and said her name will be Christy Ann. :D

I don't really like it but considering I was supposed to be a boy named Patrick (I think) I don't think it horrible. I wish my name was something like Gabriella or something rerally pretty.

My name is Leah (Lee-ah) and I'm not sure if it suits me or not. When I was a kid, I hated it. Now, it's relatively unique for an adult and it's grown on me.

Sometimes people call me "Lee" and that picks my crack a little, only because they don't know the pronounciation. But I've even relaxed when it's come to that! LOL

Well, I go by Annie by on my birth certificate is says Ann. I tried to be more grown up when I was younger to be called Ann but no one wanted to call me that so I stuck with Annie. I think it suits me but I don't know if I really like it. I wish my name were something more unique and not so plain. But considering I was going to be called Wendy Jo by my mom, I like Annie much better. I'm definitely not a Wendy.

I think you need to put Gabriella as your signature, tee hee. Wouldn't that confuse people! LOL

My name is Claire. Acutally it's Elizabeth Claire. My parent always called me Claire and it has really be a pain. I never know which name to give people like doctors, or schools, etc. I usually have to sign up everything as Elizabeth. It is legally my 1st name. But when I call the doctors and they ask what name I'm like ummm Elizabeth? maybe you have it under Claire? People must think I'm some kinda dope.

I sign everything E. Claire and every now and then people go "Eclaire" that's cute. But in the end I think it all suits me-confusing with a long story, LOL. lol

Poor Julie! My name IS Gabriela. But I go by Gabby. Does it suit me? Yup yup! ^_^

However, since I got married a few years ago, I'm not that keen on my whole "married" name. I liked my whole name (first and maiden last), as it just flowed so prettily when pronounced correctly. Ah, well.

My name is Leah (Lee-ah) and I'm not sure if it suits me or not. When I was a kid, I hated it. Now, it's relatively unique for an adult and it's grown on me.

I LOVE the name Leah - it is beautiful!

Sometimes people call me "Lee" and that picks my crack a little, only because they don't know the pronounciation. But I've even relaxed when it's come to that! LOL

"Picks my crack"??? Bwahahaahaa!!! rofl

I think Jill suits me - it's short and spunky. I'm not super-short (5'4") but definitely not tall either... and "spunky"? sometimes, maybe. But I still like "Jill" (Plus, it's nice and short, and easy to remember - even for me! LOL!)

My favorite name ever is "Eliza" (prounounced Ee-Lye-zah) and that is what we named our dd, now 16. It suits her beautifully, as she is beautiful!

My name is Natasha, but I do tend to go by Tasha. I think it suites me. I'm a Gemini and I find that I use my names according to my mood. As for nicknames, co-workers and long time friends have a tendency to shorten my name the longer they know me... Natasha, Tasha, Nat, T... oh well, I still respond.

I was also going to be a Wendy, if my Dad had his way, but they went with Jennifer instead. I've been told it was the #1 name for girls the year I was born (1970). I believe it, too, because there were always one or two other Jennifer's in my class! I go by Jenn most of the time and some in my family even still call me Jennie. I have an old childhood friend that also still calls me Jennie. I honestly couldn't imagine being anything but Jenn/Jennifer/Jennie.

Yeah mine is another obvious one... Danielle. I've never loved the name, but I do think it suits me. I was going to be a Jennifer right up until a couple hours before I was born, when another woman had a baby and named her Jennifer... and my parents went with their second choice name! No offense to the Jennifer's out there, but I'm glad I didn't get that name... I graduated with like 10 Jen's. In high school there was a phase when people were calling me Danni, but I never much liked that. I'll occassionally answer to "D."

My boys are Jack and Brayden - and those names are both OH SO PERFECT for them!

I am Jen... there were 22 Jennifer's in my graduating class (high school). Anyhoo... I like the name Audrey (it was my great grandmother's name), and just an easy handle. Better than something like "Hoochiewagon" or something :-P

everyone calls me kim, most of the time. the nickname kimmy d comes from my middle name Dee. then it grew (with my bra size) to kimmy double d, thanks to my sister Liana. but thankfully that wore off ...after a few years... or so..

My name is Shari, which I really like except for the fact that people always spell it wrong - i.e. Sherri, Sharry, Sharie, Sharon, etc.

I also have a similar problem to Audra's with my user name "Shariscraps2" - I meant it to be read as"Shari Scraps too", but my kids always think it's "Shari's Crap too" Oh well!!!

Geez another stinking Jennifer here! lol! Growing up I HATED my name. I was born in '84 and there was always at least 5 others in my class. ugh! But now that I'm older I'm used to it. Mostly people call me Jenn (yes two N's!), Jenny, Jenni-furf etc etc. My brothers and sisters have given me alot of nicknames over the years. However, my username is courtesy of my mother in law. I was trying to think of something that sounded nice for a photographers name so that when i was doing my advertisments I could do something that sounded sophisticated. Jennifer Phillips just doesn't sound sophisticated to me! So we though and my middle name is Eileen, so hence the JenniLeen! Plus Jenni Leen Photography just sounds cool to me! Ok so this was really long! my bad....=)

joscie
09-23-2008, 03:17 PM
Jenni, I think Jennifer Phillips does sound sophisticated!

My name is Joscelyne. I grew up being called by my family and friends Joscie, and as you may have heard, rhymes with bossy, flossy, mossy, glossy. not grossy. ha.

anyway, I went by Joscie until high school and when I started working I just went by Joscelyne. I hated my name growing up. I could never find personalized pencils, stickers, stamps, bicycle license plates... I would walk away disappointed every time. all those jennifers had them though. ha. just kidding. anyway i digress again. I love my name now. I embrace the somewhat uniqueness of it and have grown to accept that noone will ever spell it right and that's okay.

here's a layout i did about my name:

You can attest to how well my name fits me, Pepper! Sorry, I realize you have a real name now, but I just can't deal with it. The saucy highlights in your hair make it impossible for me to call you Pam.

ANYWAYS, yes, I looooooooooooove my name. It is just as straight up crazy as me and although there ARE other Leeandras in the world, it's usually unique enough that I can pull a Cher or Madonna and never have to go by last name. The big joke in my family is that at least one person when I am in a new setting will tell me how beautiful my name is, and even my Doubting Thomas sister has finally acquiesed to this being an actual phenomenon when a drunk guy at the baseball game we were at did that very thing to me as he was working down the line of our friends and introduced himself.

I would appreciate not having the double capital, though. Having to explain that is always such a PITA. 'Yes, there are two capital letters. Yes, it is one word. No, it does not make Andra my middle name. Yes, I have a separate middle name. Yes, I realize that computers won't read it correctly.' Ugh.

And speaking of crack picking, Leah... it SO annoys me when people pronounce my name 'LeeAn' as if the strain of the last syllable was just too much for their tongue. I'd much prefer someone asking how to pronounce my name than to ignorantly mangle and/or shorten it. I feel the same abt the double capitalization and am offended when I am friends with someone long enough for them to have seen it in an email, around Digi Land, etc. and they don't capitalize the A.

I'm Leslie, or Les, whatever! I didn't love my name growing up. I had a babysitter named Becky that I LOVED and thought was SO pretty, so I really wanted my name to be Becky, but now I love my name and I think it suits me well! The HUGE pet peeve is when people pronounce it "LeZlie" with a "Z"...because it's definitely an "S"!!! :)

My name is Megan (pronounced "Maygun" the good-ole American-only pronunciation...I think)

My mom originally always wanted a daughter named Cherie, but it just didn't work right with her married name, so then after having 3 boys she finally decided that she always wanted a Megan Renee.

Even though I have known/know lots of Meaighannes (with their thousands of spellings), I still really like my name, and I love the simplicity of the spelling and how when people ask how it's spelled I can simply say "The normal way" and they usually get it.

dh and I love thinking about baby names! We have a google document with lists of names we like and are always tossing them back and forth. :bounce:

My name is Suzann just like my user name. I get called Susan a lot, even though it is pronounced like Suzanne. My parents just decided to alter the spelling and left the "e" off. I always have to spell my name for everybody as well, and even then it is still mispelled a LOT. The funniest part is that my mom is named Susan!

I've been anxiously awaiting the big reveal of Miss Mint for quite awhile and just had to check in even though I just had my baby....yep, I guess that makes be a scrapoholic :)

My name is Andrea (shocker, I know, from my screenname, LOL). I actually really like my name, esp considering my name would have been April if I had been born in April, luckily I was born on May 1st! LOL The name April is fine, just not for me, LOL!

Alot of peeps think my name is pronounced Aundrea like: ONNN-Dri-Ah, it's just Andrea - so it sounds like: Annnnnnn-dreeeeee-Ah (no U!)

I love having a name that starts with "A"

:)

(when I was little, I always named my dolls Lindsay or Olivia and I still really like those names! LOL!)

The two things my mother did to traumatize me was the name she gave me and the time she cut my hair in Kindergarten. I have yet to forgive her for either! Another Jennifer here! I was born in the height of the Jennifer craze (74). There was always at least three stinkin' Jennifer's in every period in High School. I hated my name! My varsity year of cheerleading almost half the girls were named Jennifer...that was interesting. Every Jennifer had shortened names combined with their shortened last names so that teachers and friends could keep straight who was who with out saying a mouthful. So all through High school I was JenCab. My fam always called my Jenny (and still does). I actually don't like to be called Jenny. Everyone else calls me Jen. I vowed never to name my children an overly trendy name or one that was so bizarre that they would be brutalized in school over it. Wow! That was cathartic!

Lol! Same thing happened to me in HS so I was JenWhit (maiden name is Whitmer, talk about people spelling your name wrong!)

I also vowed to never name my kids something that EVERYONE was naming their kid! My son is James and daughter is SophIE, not Sophia. But now it seems like James is comin back.....grr! :duh:

My name is Tricia and it's not short for Patricia, it's just TRICIA. People are always trying to call me Patricia or else spelling my name Trisha or calling me Trish. I don't mind being called Trish too much, but there's not way to spell that using the correct spelling of my name.

I've never been very fond of my name and always wished that my name was Lisa. I'm not sure why, but when I was young I decidd I should have been Lisa. My mom said that was never in the running, but Tara was. I told her she should have gone with that over Tricia!

Keela
09-23-2008, 10:40 PM
I love reading people's names! My name is Keela (key-la). My parents made it up. They did think about naming me Keitha. Thank God they picked Keela! I love my name...always have. I did, however, go through a period where I was upset that I never had anything with my name on it. ;) Since my name is unusual, I wanted my kids' names to be unusual. So, my dh and picked Anakin, Tristin and Paxtin.

My friend named her daughter EmmaJean. One name...two caps. I'm sure she'll feel the same as you LeeAndra! She has a middle name too. ;)

I guess mine is no shocker either it's Amie..lol..like the french word meaning Friend..does it suit me I would have to say yes it does although noone calls me by that name. everyone calls me Amy instead of Amie..but I like my name cause it's unique and not one that you hear to often:D

JamWest1007
09-23-2008, 11:02 PM
My name is Jammie, pronounced Jay-Me, like Jamie. My older sister's name is Tammie, pronounced Tamm-Me, and my Mom thought it would be cute for our names to be spelled the same...we even have the same middle name, so only the first letter was different. Sadly, she didn't take into account that everyone would pronounce it the same, and I would forever be called Jamm-me.

She finally apologized when I was in 8th grade and won a regional writing competition. It was kind of a big deal, and the school held an assembly. When it came time to call me to the front of the auditorium the Principal, who I worked for, called up "Jamm-Me". I was soooo embarassed.

The only positive was that when 3 of the 5 of us on our Cheerleading Squad were Jay-Me, we always knew what belonged to me, because the other 2 both spelled it Jamie. Much like the Jennifers, I was born in the early 70's when Jay-Me seemed to be a popular name. I even dated a boy Jay-me once. VERY confusing.

I'm not sure the name fits me, but given that Tommie was the other option on the table, I'll take Jay-Me...funny spelling and all. I do have to say though, I find it funny when people "correct" the spelling for me. I can't tell you how many times I've filled out forms in school or Doctor's offices, and had them come back with it spelled Jamie and a confirmation that they had fixed it for me. I'm no spring chicken people, I've been around awhile, and I'm a pretty decent speller...especially my own name! rofl

KirstieGai
09-23-2008, 11:49 PM
nothing exciting about my name, Kirstie pronounced Kerstee or rhymes with thirsty as my signature says. My parents almost called me Brooke, I prefer Kirstie so I'm happy. The only thing that bugs me is that people constantly say KRISTY!

I love the name Joscelyne, I've never actually known another one and I'll confess I totally thought Jammie was Jam-ie, like peanut butter and jammie...but I also thought Meeeegan was May-gun so I suck. Oh and yes I can atest to the fact that LeeAndra's name does suit her, the double capitals are very her...like one is just not enough...has to be 2. LOL.

Aw, I love everyone's name!

I'm Kimberley but you can call me Kimmie. :) At school they usually call me Kimmie. My family usually calls me Kim or by my full name. When I was younger I really disliked my name for some reason. I went through this stage of naming myself Alexandra too. Weird, I know. LOL.

One of my aunts always used my first and middle name when she called for me! I was always scared whenever she would call me but it was usually because of was up to no good! hehe.

Now I really love my name, especially my full name even though it's really long. I made a layout for a challenge over at Scrap Artist for my name. Oh, Maybe we could do something like that too using Peppermint Creative products?

I'm Melany...or Melly (but not Mel...as my signature reminds similar to Meeegan's!) I get called Mel all the time, which I don't like in general, but I particularly despise it when people are automatic name-shorteners and I introduce myself as Melany and they say, ''Oh hi, Mel''. Uh...didn't I JUST say my name was Melany? Say the whole thing! LOL. Oddly, it doesn't bother me if it's someone I know well enough.

P.S. When I want a double quotation mark, I make two apostrophes!

Well, my name is Jenna and most of you know that and I've always been known as 'Sweet' in every community in the digital world you can think of...hmmm, not ALL...that could be bad, yanno! *EG* Jenna is actually a nickname, but after 32 years, I legally changed it to that instead of the 'other'...hehe..let's just say blech, ick, boo, hiss...yeh I don't like it and never did (sorry mom and dad! LOL), but seriously, I was often called Jenna during my childhood years, so go figure........and HE%* yea I believe it does suit moi...LURVE it! ::evil::

So, with that being said, I would also like to add that I always refer my 10 year old son as 'Bunny' and my 17 month old daughter as 'Shoogy'...most know this too, but if you don't now you do and guess what I'm gonna tell you their real names, since we're all in the sharing mood LOL...son=Jarryk, daughter=Aubrieana (short-->Aubrie).

;) Since my name is unusual, I wanted my kids' names to be unusual. So, my dh and picked Anakin, Tristin and Paxtin. ;)

I'm with you Keela with the unusual names for our kids....I felt the same with naming Kai {rythmes with tie}...=)

I am seeing a few ppl I remember from my groups here in the forums...I am so excited you have a forum now Miss Mint...=)

Been offline and not scrappin for awhile and the forum is getting me motivated to scrap...=)

My name is Charisse. (shuh-REESE) I've only met a couple of others and we all spell it differently. I've always liked my name, so even with no chance for personalized pencils, it never really bothered me.

I had to apologize to my daughter this summer because we spelled her name Allyson and she tried for the first time to find a magnet with her name. She could only get Alison or Allison.

I know what that's like not being able to find things with your spelling on it. Growing up everything had Kirsty not Kirstie on it!

My 2nd DD's name is Sommer. It drives her nuts when people pronounce it Suemmer. I'm sure I will be apologizing one day;)
