So in an effort to get to know everybody, and well just kinda chat...I'm starting a "Question of the Week". I will try to keep it scrapbook related. Some may be silly, some maybe deep, but this isn't a challenge and there is no wrong or right answer. So chime in and chat. :bounce:
So for today... What's your scrapbooking motto or mantra?
Maybe you are a "simple but sweet" or maybe you are "the more the merrier".
Even if you've never really thought about it, or maybe you wish you knew, lol...Let's chat.

My motto is straight from Ms. Frizzle of Magic School Bus Fame - " Take chances, make mistakes, get messy". I love experimenting and learning new things!

Sometimes mine is "simple, yet elegant", but I like to switch things up every now and then, so it changes depending on my mood. LOL

It used to be "how much stuff can I get on one page", LOL! But, I've tamed it down... a little :D

I tend to sit and stare at a blank screen for a few hours thinking "what am I going to create today" then as i'm creating i think "Don't clutter, don't clutter" lol
I used to smack way to much stuff on one page that you couldn't make heads or tales of anything.
I'd have to say my motto for sure is "Don' clutter the focal point"

Small and simple. ;) But, other times I just do whatever. I actually enjoy playing with all types of styles.

Oh you all are so funny!!! rofl And somehow I can totally relate to all the mottos.
But your motto might not be only about your style but also about who you scrap ("It's all about Family""Telling our story") or when you scrap ("Strike while the iron is hot""When I'm in the Mood") or how other's scrap ("Grass is always greener on the other side") or what you scrap with ("a penny saved..") etc.

Ok, i guess my motto is "all about my family" since i only scrap my son, hubby, sis and parents but i also love scraplifting my scrapping idols so i could also be "Grass is always greener on the other side" !

Not sure what my motto is... "I made that! :)" Nope, I think my motto is, "I could do that!"

I guess I'm a little bit of the "less is more" kind of person when it comes to elements. I'm the kind of scrapper who rarely uses only one photo in my pages. My mom ALWAYS put her photos in an album after having them developed. She didn't "scrapbook" them, just put them into an album with multiple pictures per page. I've kind of followed her lead but changed it up a bit and added some design along with my desire to chronicle our family.
My basic scrappin philosophy is documenting year by year my family's actions and events. When an event happens I usually scrap mulitple pictures per page and I also usually do a two-pager. You'll see this in my gallery posts pretty frequently.

Thank you Miss Mint. It's kinda actually my Life Mantra. But it really drives my husband nuts. I do things like not look up directions. I just kinda know my way there and will sorta stumble along until I find the place. You can see where the might drive a partner crazy. LOL

Go with the flow, I guess would be mine. I never know what I'm going to do. Sometimes I spend a forever on a page then just close it and start all over. Other times I can whip up a page in no time.

Oh that one defintely sounds like me too. And I love yours Lori. It's so easy to forget the little things and as they say "God is in the details." So little things are so important!!
Kirstie I thought your was "Pour me another one, and I 'll rock you out a fabulous layout in a second!!" rofl

My scrapbook motto has always been- "It's not messy it's art" I saw that on a sticker a really long time ago...like when I was in 3rd grade and thats actually stuck with me for life. All of my crafty stuff I've always not cared about if it is messy. Thats just the way I roll! I make clothes for my daughter and the stitches are all over the place sometimes, but whatever it works!

i absolutely adore the look of a ton of elements... when it's done right! i always seem to like it when others do it. but not when i do. i always end up feeling like it doesnt look "right." LOL. so i am definitely a "simple and sweet" scrapper, by default! i have been trying to challenge myself to get more elements on the page -get more creative!

I'm not sure exactly what mine is but I don't think I am clean and simple. I'm not a major life moment scrapper, I scrap more of everyday moments.

Definitely agree here! Sometimes I scraplift, sometimes my pages are clean and simple, and then sometimes I just dive in, "get messy", and pile on the elements!!! Oddly enough, it's usually the clean and simple ones that take the longest for me...hmmm...

I think mine would be "Don't Conform".
I often feel pressured to keep up with the latest trends and techniques and I don't focus on simply preserving the memories. When I can't make my pages look as wonderful as everyone else's, I get frustrated and it takes me hours to finish a page. Scrapping shouldn't be a competition, it should be a gfit from the heart and I often lose sight of that fact.

He's such a good sport and I get so excited to show him what I've done!

Thank goodness I re-read this because I was about to list this: "Life is like a jar of jalapenos, what you do today may burn your ##& tomorrow." OMG, how embarrassing that would've been, but honestly that is my overall motto in life LOL....but for scrapping......ummmmmm "Will my boss be in today at work cuz I REEEEEEEEEEEALLY wanna scrap!?!"

Another one for "anything goes." I don't feel like I have any sort of style & just scrap what I feel. Sometimes it's the picture that comes first, sometimes the idea of a layout and sometimes it's the papers I get moved by.

When I'm designing for a CT, that's my motto too. Otherwise, it's just art + storytelling "How can I best tell the story and make it look super duper awesome?"

I think that's great! I never even thought of trends and all that until I started reading scrapbooking mags and looking at online forums regularly and it seemed everyone was obsessed with getting published!

I tried to do the whole motto thing and even make a mini scrapbook about scrapbooking, then I thought "eh, forget it."
I like to capture the little things to remember, because I have a terrible memory and I like to make pretty things - put them together and I suppose that's my scrapbooking motto...that and I won't do it if it's too tedious, fussy, or time-consuming. I love to scrapbook, but as someone else said live first, scrapbook second.

My son says my motto is "Everyone's Opinion Matters". He says that's because I won't complete a page without getting all of their opinions and making sure they all like it and think I captured the memory right. I guess that's because I am doing this for them too...And frankly, I think my guys are all more artistic than I am. Although my son just peeked over my shoulder and says "THAT'S NOT TRUE!".
(I kinda like that he tries to make his ole Mom feel good...he really is a cool kid. :p)

My husband and oldest son have even asked me to "show them around" PSE. They really do both have a good eye, artistic natures and great memories. How fun would it be for scrapbooking to become a family thing. I would LOVE that.
