No I'm not talking about sewing patterns, but the patterns that appear in everyday things, objects, and nature. Patterns are everywhere in nature, such as the scales on a snake, a peacock’s tail feathers, stripes on a zebra, cracks in dried mud. These patterns are beautiful, and always make interesting photographs. The repetition of shapes and objects has an artistic flair and appeals to the eye. However, when you can find a pattern of similar objects with one thing different, it can make a statement about individuality or diversity. Examples might be a group of red leaves, and one yellow one, a group of black horses and one white one, or a pattern of small rocks and one big one.

This week we're photographing patterns. There are probably a dozen things in your house or in your yard that create a pattern. Photograph them and submit them for this week's challenge.

If you have any questions please feel free to post them or email me. I'm here to help.*

You have from*Friday Jan. 15th*to*Thursday Jan. 21st*to shoot your photos for this theme. Below are some examples to get the creative juices flowing. Good luck and I look forward to seeing everyones photos!

awww thanks! :)

a little trivia?
the last photo of the blue bottles w/ 1 red one....i took that when i was in college...about 11 or so years ago. i used Kodachrome slide film (that's why the color is so vibrant) and shot it with an old 1980 Canon AE-1 Program SLR 35mm camera. so yep taken waaaay before the days of digital. and no enhancements.

interesting no? :)

This one is fun and I didn't forget it. So here's my first:

http://www.peppermintcreative.com/gallery/data/506/IMG_2705K.jpg

I noticed it doesn't look sharp anymore now it has been resized. I guess the problem is that I have to resize from a 21mp photo to 150kb and don't do that in the right way. Any tips for resizing? How I can do that in the best way to keep my photos sharp?

i always run a "defog" or sharpen action for my photos for the web. but then i don't resize them either. Flickr does that for me! :)

me too. after you resize for web just click FILTER> SHARPEN and then you can customize it right away if you go to EDIT>FADE SHARPEN you can bring it down a little if it's too sharp.

LOVE that pic Irene

This is a great challenge. My 3 year old got a digital camera for Christmas, and this was a perfect project for the two of us. The shots may not be particularly artistic (and his didn't turn out at all), but it was fun seeing what patterns he came up with and introducing him to photography.

Great pics ladies! :happydance:

This challenge was a lot harder than I thought it would be!! Apparently I don't have too many patterns in my house. It was a challenge to find something that make it look interesting. Practiced with my macro lens. This is my cheese grater after a little PP.
