View Full Version : Click-a-Pic Challenge #6 "Childhood Memories"

We've all got memories from our childhood that we treasure & remember fondly. Some of my favorite childhood memories were summers I spent at my grandparents house, playing on their property, swimming at the lake, making homemade ice cream, eating watermelon outside and going to the soda shop in town and ordering a cherry coke. Those were special times, times that I hold onto.
So for our next challenge I want everyone to go out and photograph something that reminds them of a childhood memory. The possibilities are endless. Put your heart into it. As scrapbookers we look to preserve our families memories. For this challenge, we look to reflect on the past and bring a bit of nostalgia with it.
But there's a twist:
Since we're dealing in memories/nostalgia/rememberance I'd like all photos submitted to either be in sepia, or have a “vintage” feel about them.
For free photoshop actions you can download them here: http://www.atncentral.com/image_enhance.htm (look for Aly's Vintage)
http://www.atncentral.com/bw_conv.htm (look for Duotone Dreams, or TLR Sepia Tint or Vintage Tint)
http://coffeeteaphotography.blogspot.com/ (and there are several really great vintage/sepia actions here for PSE & PS.)
http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/2008/04/actions/ the soft & faded and vintage actions would work well for this one.
If you have any questions please feel free to post them or email me. I'm here to help.
You have from*Friday July 31st*to*Thursday Aug 6th*to shoot your photos for this theme. Please submit only photos taken during that time frame. Below are some examples to get the creative juices flowing. Good luck and I look forward to seeing everyones photos!

So here's mine! I took it this afternoon. That's exactly what I did in summer when I was a child... strolling around in the fields, walking the dog or meeting friends out there to play hide and seek and then going home all covered in hay...

great job Birgit & such a speedy photographer! this photo looks like it could've been taken back in 1955 or something. (except that the clothes kinda give it away) :P what a great start to the challenge!

Hehehe! Oh man do I ever have a stash of chalk! My mom got my daughter the huge box of crayola sidewalk chalk and she loves it!
Well here is my first entry! I used to swing on the same type of swing at my grandparents house ALL of the time. it was my personal little get away from everything. now my daughter has the same escape.

I used the PW's vintage action on this one and lowered the opacity a bit as I wasn't diggin' the full blown vintage color.
I have one more thing I am going to try Tues or Wed...I just need to get my hands on another watermelon!

yahoo, i managed to get 2 pics up this week.
I have no idea why I cannot get my pics to look bigger on this site. I down size to 600x400 pixels and 200dpi, but they always look smaller than all the others. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Cher

i wish i could help you cher! i havent a clue why the pics are coming out so small in the post. i noticed that about several posters images.
i finally got my second pic. gah that was a nightmare. my grandfathers new girlfriend had him get rid of e everything that was my grandmothers so my china teaset is gone. :( so i was stuck using my daughters plastic one.

Cher, do you use the thumbnail picture from the gallery? That could be the reason why it is smaller than the others! I upload my pictures here http://www.imageshack.us/ again...than you have the original sized photo in your post!
Here is what I did for this challenge...going for a walk in the spa gardens of our city was always a highlight! Looking at all these old buildings and fountains....playing without streets nearby! It still looks like it did 20 years ago!

nina that pic is beautiful!!! i am jealous of you location. the closest i can get to anything even remotely close to that is the state capitol of texas and its nothing pretty. oh i want to take a trip to where ever it is you are!
thanks for the comment cher. i think nina might be right...are you using the thumbnail possibly??? i click on my image and then copy the html code for it and in the actual post i click on the little image thing and paste the code in the popup. i dont know if there is another easier way but i get my full sized image that way. hope that helps!

*whew* I didn't think I'd be able to get one in!
I didn't fade my pictures back all the way because color film was around when I was a kid. :smug: :cover:
When we were kids my mom would let us decorate our own birthday cakes. She had plastic tips and those little tubes of frosting for us to use. This week a friend was teaching this group of 9 year old girls how to decorate cakes, and I was helping out. I got the leftover colors and tips. Believe it or not, this is way better than anything I came up with as a kid!

so many great entries this time around! :)
sorry that i've been a little absentee this past week. My BIL & SIL are trying to finish up the "finish" work on the house they've been building and I've been over there every day helping out. *phew* hopefully next week will be less busy for me!
Cher i noticed in the gallery that your photos were sized from 200x400 pixels which is rather small. try sizing them at 400x600, maybe that'll make a difference? :noidea: i'm no tech junkie so i really don't know.
i can't wait to look over all the entries and have a "winner" announced later today!! :D

CONGRATS to everyone - another week of stunning pictures. I've missed so MANY while I was away (sniffle). Ready to play again!!!
Re: Small thumbnails in posts. When you copy the code from the gallery (BBCode Thumbnail) you are going to get a small thumbnail. The trick? Paste the code in your post, click the A/A button at the top right corner of the grey box you type your message in (above the smilies). This changes your post to HTML. When you can see the code, you can delete the /thumbs to give you a full size image. CLick A/A again to preview.
Example:
**url=http://www.peppermintcreative.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6655][img]http://www.peppermintcreative.com/gallery/data/3/thumbs/First-Haircut.gif[/img**
DELETE bold text.
